This settlement resolves a lawsuit brought by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Amazon regarding its U.S. Prime membership enrollment and cancellation processes. The FTC alleged that Amazon used deceptive practices to enroll consumers in Amazon Prime and made it difficult for consumers to cancel. Amazon defended the case and did not admit any liability in the settlement.
Millions of eligible consumers will receive Automatic Payments under the settlement reached by President Trump’s FTC without taking any action. Automatic Payments apply to consumers who signed up for Prime through a Challenged Enrollment Flow and used no more than three Prime Benefits in any 12-month period.
Once Automatic Payments are distributed, the window for filing claims for compensation opens on January 5, 2026. Eligible consumers will receive a notice by email or mail with instructions on how to submit a claim form, and you will have 180-days to submit your claim. The deadline to submit the claim form will be specifically stated in your notice.
You are eligible for an Automatic Payment if:
- You are a U.S. consumer who signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025, and
- You enrolled through a Challenged Enrollment Flow, and
- You used no more than three Prime benefits in a 12-month period from June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
The window for filing claims for compensation under the settlement reached by President Trump’s FTC opens on January 5, 2026. Consumers that meet the eligibility requirements will be contacted by email or mail sent by January 28, 2026. You are eligible for a Claims Process Payment if:
- You are a U.S. consumer who signed up for Prime, and
- You unintentionally enrolled in a Prime membership through a challenged enrollment method at issue in the FTC’s lawsuit from June 23, 2019 - June 23, 2025; or you tried to cancel your Prime membership through the online cancellation process from June 23, 2019 - June 23, 2025, but were unable to do so, and
- You used less than ten Prime benefits (e.g., delivery, shopping, streaming, reading, and other benefits provided to Prime members) during any 12-month period of enrollment in Prime, and
- You did not receive an automatic payment as part of this Settlement already.
Under the settlement reached by President Trump’s FTC, eligible consumers can receive a refund of their Amazon Prime membership fees, up to $51.
Eligible Consumers are receiving the actual Prime membership fees they paid up to $51, minus the amount of any refunds, credits, or chargebacks already returned. Some consumers signed up for a trial that charged the consumer a small or nominal amount of money for a Prime membership. Other consumers may have already received refunds, chargebacks, or other credits that affected the amount paid for their Prime membership.
If you are eligible for an Automatic Payment, your payment will be issued by December 24, 2025.
If you are eligible for a Claim Process Payment, your payment will be sent after you submit a claim form and it is reviewed and approved by the Claims Administrator, and at the end of the Claims Process Payment period. The window for filing claims opens on January 5, 2026. You will be contacted by email or mail sent by January 28, 2026 if you are eligible. Consumers will have 180 days to submit their claim form, and Amazon has 30 days to review each claim form once received. Payments will be made by September 2026.
Automatic Payments will be made by electronic payment applications (PayPal or Venmo) or mailed checks. Automatic Payments will not be sent by any other methods or payment applications.
Consumers submitting a claim form for a Claims Process Payment will have the option to elect the method for how they will receive payment. If your claim form is approved, payment will be made through electronic payment applications (PayPal or Venmo), or mailed checks.
The window for filing claims opens on January 5, 2026. You will be contacted by email or mail sent by January 28, 2026 if you are eligible to submit a claim form. Due to mail processing and transit times, it may take a few days or more for you to receive your mail and you may receive your mail in early February. If you did not receive a claim form, but believe you are eligible to receive a check but not yet received one, you may submit your claim HERE.
Please note that you will never be asked to pay fees or give your social security number, or Amazon account login and password to receive a Claims Process Payment.
If you do not receive an Automatic Payment, but believe you are eligible for compensation, you may still qualify for a Claims Process Payment. Notices have been sent to Claims Process Payment eligible consumers with instructions on how to submit a claim form and updates will also be posted on the official settlement website. If you believe you are eligible to receive a check but not yet received one, you may submit your claim HERE.
“Prime Benefits” means goods or services provided to Amazon Prime members as a result of their Amazon Prime subscription membership and which the member would not have received if they were not a Prime member, such as delivery, shopping, streaming, reading, and other benefits listed HERE.
For purposes of this settlement, “Prime Benefits” does not include free, expedited shipping if the transaction at issue would have had that shipping speed for free without a Prime subscription.
You have until July 27, 2026 to submit your claim form via this website. You can file a claim HERE.
To submit a claim form, please click HERE. You must enter all requested information, sign, and submit the settlement claim form on or before July 27, 2026. After the claim form is submitted, it will be reviewed for eligibility. Consumers whose claim form is approved will be provided compensation for Prime membership fees paid during the applicable timeframe up to $51.
To request a Claims Process Payment, the claims form will ask you to confirm whether you were unintentionally enrolled in Prime and/or unsuccessfully attempted to cancel during the relevant time-period (June 23, 2019 to June 23, 2025).
You do not need to collect information or documents regarding whether you signed up for Prime through a Challenged Enrollment Flow. You also do not need to collect information or documents regarding whether you used any particular number of Prime benefits during any 12-month period. That analysis is being completed for you.
The Challenged Enrollment Flows are: Universal Prime Decision Page (UPDP), Shipping Option Select Page (SOSP), Prime Video enrollment flow, and Single Page Checkout (SPC). To receive either an Automatic Payment or a Claims Process Payment, you will not need to determine whether or not you signed up through a Challenged Enrollment Flow. That analysis is being completed for you.
This means you entered the Prime online cancellation process but failed to complete it or inadvertently accepted a “Save Offer” (such as a discounted membership or extended free trial) that prevented cancellation.
No. Amazon did not admit wrongdoing.
No. This is a government enforcement action brought by the FTC, and the settlement reached by President Trump’s FTC applies to Amazon and all affected consumers. Unlike private class actions, there is no “opt out” process in government settlements, but you do not need to take any action.
Yes. This is an official, court-ordered settlement. Be cautious of any communications asking for personal information beyond what's necessary for the claims process. Always verify through official channels.
The claims administrator will use the default address, phone number, and email that Amazon has on file for refunds and notices.

Checks to consumers eligible to receive an Automatic Payment were sent to each consumer’s default billing or shipping address using the name that appeared on their Amazon account. It is possible that your name may have changed, for example, due to name change after marriage, and that your Amazon account may not have been updated to reflect that change. If you believe that the name on the check is incorrect and need a check issued in another name, please go to the check reissue portal. The claims administrator will review your request.
